What is submission grappling?

Ground fighting that uses leverage, positioning and technique — not strength — to control and submit an opponent.

We draw from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, catch wrestling and judo, trained exclusively no-gi and built around live resistance. It's one of the fastest growing combat sports in the world — and one of the best ways to build fitness, confidence and problem-solving under pressure.

A club, not a gym

North Shore Submission Grappling Club is a registered incorporated society — it exists for its members, not for profit.

Every decision is made by the people on the mats. Members train together, support each other's development, and have a vote in how the club is run. With over eight black belts training and teaching, black and brown belts actively share coaching and grading duties.

Our members include students, professionals, parents and plenty of people who'd never trained before. Some compete. Most train for fitness, self-defence, or the satisfaction of getting better at something hard.

Your first class, sorted

Most of our members started with zero experience. You don't need to be strong or athletic — training builds that over time.

  • Warm-up and movement drills
  • Technical instruction and demonstration
  • Partner drills at your own pace
  • Optional live grappling at the end

Classes are structured so beginners can follow along comfortably from day one. Most people are surprised how quickly they settle in.
